I was lucky enough to get a free 260E (1989) auto, but there seems to be a problem, as soon as the ignition is turned on the oil pressure reads max pressure (3), I was under the impression the oil pressure would pick up once the engine has been turned on? What do I need to check or replace guys?

I believe that's the way it is supposed to be. I say this because that's the way mine has always been and my mechanic hasn't said anything to me lol.

That is normal until the engine reaches operating temperature. Then in gear the oil pressure should be about 1 1/2 to 2.

Oh good catch, Jasper. I didn't notice he said that. Nevermind my first reply then.

Yup, definetly the oil pressure sending unit.. Swap it out ASAP, it's good to know one's actual oil pressure;-)

Thanks for the reply all, but how do I go about changing the oil pressure sensor? Is it any where near the oil filter?
