Nice to see that nobody was injured and the car remains intact. Perhaps the police were hesitant to conduct a pit on a car that has far better control than theirs.

I'll try to find the video from years ago. They tried several times to do a pit on a mercedes and all it did was bang up their front bumper.

Given the financial affairs of many CA counties, and the glut of 'used' Mercedes, perhaps municipalities should begin to employ these fine vehicles as a means to better aprehend criminals as well as save a few bucks.

"older model Mercedes was seen driving at a high rate of speed".........damn right......

they rarely use the pit nowadays, too much chance for collateral damage

they just follow along with the bird in the sky.....wonder if this guy ran out of gas....looks like a gas car...probably 560

he should have grabbed a diesel

Likely a nice one to buy for real cheap.

I know that stretch VERY well, I drive it a lot when I am in LA because adjacent Ventura Blvd is where I hang out, from Woodland Hills to Studio City, the 101 Ventura freeway is pretty bad, at 8am it is typically REAL slow, though not so bad sarting up in the Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks area at the Ventura County line, west bound where this caper took place. Though for sure at a crawl by the time he got to Hollywood at the Gower exit.

The car's a 2nd gen 420 or 560 LWB SEL (1996-1991) sedan, and likely it has black or dark blue leather seats and a (not uncommon for these) Air Con that's inop, so it would be starting to get hot as hell inside, which is how come the sunroof and window is open, lol.

I bet it would be available to pick up real cheap in a couple of months at the LAPD impound sale, after the lien notices went out and the car was still unredeemed and unclaimed, when it will get the liens cleared off and put up for bid at the LAPD impound yard, where it wil be auctioned off to pay the towing and storage fees. (It will be messy inside if nobody shut the window and sunroof for 2 months after today though.) There is a decent chance the driver won't bother to pay and pick it up. (Got a *lot* of other stuff on his plate just now!)

Ditto the owner of it - if it had been stolen.

But it looks pretty clean and undamaged in the picture, and and since it went 100 mph in the chase, and has no body damage, it would be a good car to pick up. But the new buyer would need to get a key cut. Difficult here because Mercedes Benz require proof of ownership - typically the pink slip - to issue a new key.

Hahahaha THANKS sooo much for posting this!

This chase just proves how great the 126s are, and is a true testament of their build quality and craftsmanship.

Im really considering checking into what happens with this 1, as many of you have pointed out. Guess I'll call the impound lot at LAPD???

And when your in a 560sel doing 100mph...avoiding the 5-0....with your "lady" in the pasanger seat..you are required by LAW to blare some Genesis or Duran Duran hahahahahaha.....

Probably going to be in the impound yard and sold........
Someone this afternoon in one of my favorite watering holes asked if it was my car and me in the chase. Didn't know then that it was an S class.....
Will look for it on the news this evening.
