"sticky" idea

As many of new members who bought a used MB and don't have radio code I was very exited to see that radio code can be provided at the request in the thread.
It took some reading to find out that doesn't work any longer.

May be it would be a good idea to make sticky note on this forum: FOR RADIO CODE ASK YOUR LOCAL MB DEALER period!

I did go to local MB dealer and got this code in a few minutes. It was free of charge

WHERE TO GET RADIO CODES

This is a good idea, and it has been suggested by several people. I don't know why it hasn't been picked up. In hopes that it will be, here's the information that will protect the interests of the forum as well of those of legitimate owners:

1) Your dealership can provide the code if you can provide your VIN, and most in the U.S. will do it free for their customers. Most will verify ownership (very easy if they already have you as a customer in their computer system; and, they'll already have your VIN).

2) If your dealer does not cooperate, those with Becker radios can complete the form at index, providing ownership information requested and sending the required fee.

3) Those with Alpine radios may call Alpine customer service.

4) COMAND units before the '08 models do not have radio codes.

I was one of those who suggested that a while back. Maybe the moderator(s) will pick up on it this time.
great minds think alike :D
Obtaining the Radio Code

I'm glad the helpful advice to go to your local dealer is posted here. Really? Of course I could do that, if I knew exactly where that was, or that it wasn't 100 miles away, or if I quit my job to drive all day to fix a stupid "safety" feature.

I thought the point of this site was to be helpful and solve a simple problem simply. Give me 5 digits so I can stop sitting in my car 2 hours a day in silence.

Time for the world's smallest violin!

It's my and every Mercedes' security that is at risk if radio codes are freely available on the Internet.

Sorry about your personal problems, but they're not more important than generally discouraging theft of Mercedes radios. You'll be better off when you get over your entitlement fantasies.

I was not able to get into your car. A stupid dealer did not order me a key for your car even if I gave him the licence plate number and showed a forged identity card. Since this site is supposed to be helpful, post me your other key, latest tomorrow ("please" intentionally missing).

Welcome to the forum.

If you bother to read, you would find you were given an alternative besides contacting your dealer. And if you don't even know who or where your dealer is, why should that be our problem? It's yours! Grow up.

Since you missed much of the point of the gently-worded posts in this string, try post #4 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audio-telematics-forum/1357773-need-radio-code.html, especially concerning "the point of this site." - I just love getting that lecture from new guys.

And when that has sunk in, try http://www.benzworld.org/forums/new-member-introductions/1398151-some-new-guy-help-i-hope.html
I never knew of a thief that has been discouraged to steal some radio because of the code. they get them and sell them for whatever they can get, so simple, 99.9% of the time the inconvenience is for legit owner whose battery died or its radio has been removed for servicing, i work in a service shop and customers always cry when they have to pay $50 to get the code for a 10 years old cassette radio.
About the comparison with the keys, there is a difference, since the thief will discover that your radio has a code AFTER it has been stolen! so you don't have the radio anymore anyway!

Most thieves are more clever than that, excluding those that steal anything when they need money for drugs and don't really understand what they are doing.

If the code is not easily available, the radio has less value on the stolen devices market, an average thief would know which devices to steal.
The dealer has given me a 4 digit code, not 5!

Our local dealer has given me a 4 digit code, insisting it should work. It does not. The radio is the same one that has always been in the car (1994 c220) and I know the service garage has reset it before after installing a new battery.
Is there a mystery digit? It is the SC button you press after entering the code, correct?

Stewing in silence....
I too am looking for a code for Becker 1492. I just purchased a Becker 1492 on ebay because my volume control on the original (BE 1692) radio is erratic. Naturally the guy doesn't have VIN nor code. I think this trifle bickering is silly. Still I'm not sure why giving codes is such a big deal. I can't see why any thief would have the desire to steal an old cassette radio. If it weren't that I wanted to plug n play I wouldn't have bothered and purchased a nice radio worthy of the thief's time.
It should be intuitively obvious even to the most casual observer that this thread is not the place to obtain your radio code over the web. Post #2 provides the only authorized ways to get the codes.

And it doesn't cost $50.
They want 50$

My dealer want over 40$ for the code,, the man i talk to sad that they have to pay mercedes (and they are the mercedes dealaer in Sweden Hedin Göteborg Bil AB +46 0520-898 70 Fredrik) for every code request. It´s a rip off, and i don´t belive him.
I have pay´d over 3000$ for them to work on my car. And my founds are non right now.
After replasing my battery.

My VIN :WDB1400631A35667

Search the forum. This thread isn't the place.
