The '81 nonturbo 300D I just bought (US version) was $29,070 in Feb 1981.

My 1985 300D Turbo was purchased for $24,000. That is about $47,500 in 2008 money. That is a bit lower than the modern E class sells for.

mine, which was bought through european delivery program, would have cost $29945 including delivery. Although it was an 85, it was manufactured and purchased in 7/84.
using an inflation calculator, What cost $29945 in 1984 would cost $61281.58 in 2008.

no where close to 100K, but still a lot of money.
