help please !! Stereo volume decreases and increases on its own

Hello Everyone,
I just purchased a pre-owned 05 CLK500 w/10k miles on it. It has the original Karman stereo, but the volume seems to adjust by itself, it lowers the volume on its own for a few sec. then comes back to what I normally had it? Dealer cant find whats wrong......any suggestions or similar problems??

Thnx

It's a "feature." It automatically adjusts the volume based on the ambient noise. Typically, the faster you go, the louder it gets. Or, if you have a convertible, it goes up with the top open. Surprised your dealer didn't know that. I've never checked, but there's probably a way to shut that off.

Actually I have the same problem, at first it was working fine, adjusting just slightly depending on ambeient noise in the cab and when I slow to a stop at intersections. But now it adjusts radically from time to time. Its gone from whisper soft, while Im talking on the phone and suddenly booming in sound.

I just picked up my "New" 2003 CLK55 AMG and I can't find anything in the manual on how to disable this feature. I went from a BMW E46 3 series that had the same feature but I was able to turn it off. Does anyone know how to disable it?

Thanks,
Bob
