My 2002 C320 wagon started having the same problem yesterday. The sound would cycle on and off regularly. The stereo power & displays stay on. At first, I thought it was a scratched CD, but have the same problem whether it's the radio (FM or AM or WB), CD in CD changer, or cassette (I scrounged up an old tape just to check).
It's a consistent cycle - sound on for 2 seconds, then no sound for 2 seconds, sound on for 2 seconds, etc.
Any ideas?
