Hi there.

Wondering if this is a problem anyone's come across on the B class.
Has happened a few times now, and could be dangerous.
Car is fine for 5 minutes or so, then steering wheel starts to feel a bit notchy. Pulling into a roundabout turning slightly left and wheel doesn't want to turn. Turn harder and after a click which sounds like it comes from the steering column, the wheel turns.
I continue driving and steering is normal for 5 minutes. Making a left turn and save think happens. Some resistance, turn a bit harder, click, and turns. After a few more minutes driving car starts to feel light it has a flat tyre. Turning left and right feels slow and heavy.
Then goes back to feeling normal again.
Car is sort of ok to drive, as long as you're aware it may not do as you expect.
Does need dealing with though, wondered if anyone's experienced this on a B class before?

Not at all normal and could be dangerous to you or others very quickly. Rare to hear about steering problems with our B's but it has been reported a few times many years back.

Must be looked into right away. Take it to a certified MB garage and have them check all aspects of the steering and linkages. It's electric steering but with many mechanical parts in the linkages and rack.

Now moved to this W245 Forum.

Devours advice is spot on. In addition, with electric power steering, you should have the car scanned to see of there are any fault codes that appear. My experience with codes is thay not all will generate a check engine light. Steering problems aren't something to ignore.

I've seen this problem several times, sounds like a defective steering rack, but I can only confirm after a test drive.
I'm not a certified BM garage but I fix A and B class for living in London.
