Cheers all!

Steering wheel sensitivity 2007 vs 2008, my father owns 2008 e350 sport, rwd, mine is the same but 2007.

I drove my parents to their appointment out of town today, in their 2008. Steering wheel feel is completely different, their car is waaaay to sensitive and almost “twitchy” compare to my 2007. Almost feels over-assited.

Is there a way you to “tone down” or adjust this sensitivity of theirs a bit? Via user settings or via Star?

Paps also prefers my, less sensitive 2007 as well.

Regards,
D

It appears that the difference in steering wheel sensitivity between the 2007 and 2008 cars is likely due to a failed variable assists steering solenoid. To confirm this, codes should be pulled from the ESP and front SAM. If the solenoid has failed, it cannot be adjusted electronically via Star or any other electronic connections.

Yep, option 213 on both cars

213SPEED-SENSITIVE POWER STEERING/VARIO STEERING

On his car, some sensor (steering related) was replaced few years back… do these go through calibration of some kind?

Chack the condition of fluid in both cars, may be that other has dirty/old fluids...

Can't remember 100% sure but I have a dim memory that Vediamo could have had some factor to valve command (cannot remember whihc model was in discussion though, could be that older models does not have it)... and pretty sure DAS not have it, but on the other hand never checked development meny of steering module.

Alignment specifically tow out can cause twitchy steering especially at highway speed.
That's for sure, though, it is is not the case in this 2008 car. Alignment is with in specs, and fairly fresh. The best way I can describe it - 2008 is "over assisted", steering is too light and not enough visceral feed back.

So consensus there is no way dial back the sensitivity via any electronic connections/star/modules?

Then the variable assists steering solenoid has likely failed. You should pull codes from ESP and front SAM.
