I have a problem with my steering lock. With the key it will turn about 1/4 of an inch. By this I mean that the key turns slightly even with a fresh key like the valet key that is hardly used. With the lower panel removed, I can get to it and it turns enough so the steering wheel unlocks and relocks when the key is turned back and removed. I say all this to tell that the key turns but the lock assembly limits full turn. Unfortunately, anti theft measures don’t allow lock assembly removal without full turn.

Bottom line: what do I do? I have tried all kinds of fiddling with it but it only turns so far to what feels like a hard stop! Cut thru lock?

I would first suggest lubing the cylinder with some wd 40 or prefereably some graphite.

Next, do a search on here. Some others have had issues and posted some creative solutions, such as painting the key with nail polish in order to make the tumblers move far enough.
