I can't turn my keys. I though it might have been the tumbler like my 190, but I guess that didn't fixed the problem. I still cannot turn the key easily. Maybe 1 out of 10 tries will it work. Any suggestion?
You say "it might have been the tumbler"... did you replace the lock?
I have had problems with juggling key position and overcoming steering lock bolt tension due to having aftermarket keys not PRECISELY cut for the lock. Sometimes it seems like the lock is just immobile and I will apply the exact combo of gentle turning of key, less gentle turning of steering, and wiggle up and down of the lock and "VOILA!" the key turns like a charm.
My son has this happen to him often because he uses the steering wheel as a support when exiting the car, and he rotates the steering wheel to the lock position, then lets go. The rubber wheels leave just enough tension on the steering lock to make it harder to pull out... makes it feel like the key just doesn't work. You have to peek out at the tire, turn toward the direction the wheel is turned, then start jiggling the key... works for me in seconds every time.
I am going to lube the steering lock bolt soon.... just pull the instrument panel and you will see the lock on the right. I am not sure how to get that lube where I want it, but I will find a way. Good luck !
I am new to the 123 world and have been going through the engine to get acquainted with it. Engine has 153K on it. I have adjusted the valves, let the injectors soak in diesel purge, and did a diesel purge this morning.
Before I did all of this, it would fire up in the...
Ok so I got a bit impatient.
I have been looking for a diesel Mercedes for a while now.
So long in fact I bought a 560 SEC to try and cure the want.
The SEC is a great car but I still wanted an old W123 or W126 diesel.
I found one locally and jumped on it as being a local car eliminated a...
I picked up a W123 over the weekend an am trying to get it to pass state inspection.
For the most part everything is in order except the high beams.
When I engage them the low beams they dim and the FOG lights come on.
I am guessing either the headlight switch or high beam switch is faulty...
My 1983 300D seems to have stopped charging. This car is fairly new to me I have only about 1500 miles on it myself. On a 4 hour drive I made a stop for about 45 minutes and came out to find the car dead. The only thing I noticed was that the dog had switched on a switch on the dash that...
Heres a crazy-maker. I'm visiting my girlfriend in the South for the summer and I used the opportunity to buy an old diesel Mercedes. Its already left us stranded several times, but I'm almost done getting the cobwebs out of it and getting a proper old Mercedes.
I just replaced the alternator...
