Someone on the forum recently mentioned that adjustment of a nut on the steering box was a quick and painless way to remove slop from the steering. My 300TDt has a degree of slop or play at straight ahead, and i have searched my Haynes manual for reference to this proceedure without success. Anyone able to advise?
Cheers,

Chris, before a box adj., make sure it is the box. With car running, have somebody rock the steering wheel back and forth. Look under the car for play in tie rods, idler arm bushings ect... If play is in the box, proper way to adj. is to center box with locating screw in the bottom, then back OUT adj. screw on the top . (counterclock). If you have to go out more then one revolution, the box is probably worn. Just go out enough to please yourself in this case. Don't make it too tight or you will cause more damage......
