i have an 1985 mercedes 190e 2.3 and it starts up and shuts off. the battery is bad and i havent gotten a chance to go out and buy a new one, so i jumpstart the car when i remove the wires after the start, the car shuts off. whyis it doing this to me????? all help will be appreciated and thanx in advance

After enginre starts, it runs off the alternator. If it shuts off, it means that your alternator is bad (or the cables), or that you have a short circuit somewhere. That's probably why your battery is discharged. Fix the alternator first, and then see if the battery holds charge.

Piotr is right on the $. It is the altenator !!
