Sport Edition Brand wheels on your E320??

Has anybody here installed Sport Edition rims on your W210!? The look great, but the low price has me a bit apprehensive. I guess I'm just looking for a bit of justification that this less expensive wheel is still going to be ok. Here's the ones I'm looking at (they are the Sport Edition F6). At closeout pricing they are only $94 per including hardware. I've seen many recommendations for tirerack.com, but have not seen these wheels posted by anybody here.

thanks in advance.

Hi, hollywired.

Your subject line probably will throw more than a few of us for a loop. There is a Sport Edition of the 210 and it has special wheels, that's what I thought you meant at first, not the brand name Sport Edition.

In any event, I don't know of anyone who has them on the forum.

That said, I don't think you really need to be worried about quality, etc. One thing about TR is that they don't sell junk, which is more than you can say about a lot of places. I say if you like the style then go for it; they look good to me. (That said, will they come with different center caps or will your stock stars fit? The S/E center caps look sort of cheesy to me. ;))

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

thanks again for another great reply Greg! i didn't even think about the Sport Edition option for the E series! i would really like to find a set of the OEM sport wheels, but they seem to be scarce ... not to mention pricey!

the stand up for TR is what really matters! thx!

I was interested in having the 17" sport wheels on my non-sport edition W210 too. I checked with a dealer's parts guy and he found some in a MB wheel catalog that they want close to $500 per wheel for, so a set of 4 is almost $2000. He then told me my wheels (10-spoke standard in 2001 and some other years) might be worth $300 for all four because there are so many of them available.

If you want OEM, you might try eBay too, but I already have and I was not comfortable dealing with the 2 guys (for different reasons) who replied to my "Want to Buy" post.

Good Luck!

I didn't mean to sound too "rah rah" for TR; but they are a great source for information no matter where you actually buy your wheels and tires. I've dealt with them a few times and from what I've seen, if you see them offering a brand you can be pretty confident in the quality, which is why their site is usually the first place I start looking.

Personally I ended up going with the 211 split spokes and the laurel-wreath center caps; I think they look awesome. You do have to source custom lug bolts when going to the 211 wheels but if any of the 211 designs appeal to you then that gives you many more OEMs to consider.

Re: the OEM sport wheels, you can find them for a reasonable price, but you have to know what you are looking for. Quite often the people selling them on E-Bay or Craigslist don't even know they're the sport edition, just "17 MB Wheels" (or "whells" of course;)).

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I have the sport pack on my 2002 E320 and it has the really nice 17 inch rims. My dealer sells them but not sure of the price. I just had them retouched to take off some curb rash that I did when parking the car! Ok, so not the best parker between two cars and sometimes get too close to the curb. Cost me $120 each for 2 of them. Only two needed it. Looks great! Just like brand new and much cheaper then buying new ones. I am SUPER careful when parking these days!

I got a set of wheel of the Special Edition (only year 2001 has it ???). Quite nice ? $400 with rim and tire (almost new) from forum fellow couple years ago (when he upgrade his shoes). Spent another $400 for the chrome job, and $60 for the long lugs.

Saw similar set going on eBay now for $700 (plus $170 shipping, but if you're local, it's pick-up ?), quite a great great great deal for OEM set. Seller mistakenly advertise them as for S class, may be that's why it does not sell. But I look up the part number, and it's the one for the W210 special edition (same as mine). Search for item 330109005548.

The special edition is even more rare.

when i was looking for some new tires, i saw this at the swap meet, i was thinking of getting it, but decieded not too, it was so cheap too, only 450 for a set of four with fairly good HXM4 Tires. reason for not getting it, someone told me it was 245/45/17 it would fit correctly.

Thanks for all the replies! Some great choices for me to now consider .... which has made it all that much more difficult to decide.

I am considering staying with 16s, but then doing the HR springs/Bilstein shock treatment. I'd hate to spend the extra money on new 17" tires/rims, when there are brand new ContiTouring tires on the stock rims. I think just having a different style will make quite a bit of difference in the appearance; along with other small mods. Since it is going to be my daily driver; I don't want to go too far with the spending .... yet.

I'm just going to keep my eyes wide open for a good deal.

These look really nice chromed! They look exactly like the rims on my car but blinged out! Thought about chroming mine but not sure how well they would hold up as my last ones on my Benz before this got pretty dinged out and they were expensive as well! Nevertheless, nice rims chromed out look hot!

Hey, DB, I agree with you as far as non-silver cars go. The chrome wheels look great on the red, white, black and green MBs, but I've yet to see any set of chrome wheels on the desert or brilliant silver that look better than the polished aluminum -- IMHO, of course. :)

You have any recent pics? (Yes, I mean of the car...)

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I need to take some good pics of her. I think after I have her detailed next in a few months then I will take pics. The ones I have were taken on a dark cloudy day and didn't come out as nice as the car looks. My car is a Quartz Silver metallic so not desert or Brillant silver. Since the rims are shiny already I am not sure what I will do. I do think they would look good since the car isn't a true silver. Kind of hard to explain but it is silver with undertones. I know for sure I am having my windows tinted next month. The paint color is supposed to be part of the sports special edition that came out during last year model right before 2003 came out. My next MB will be a Quartz gray or black with spoke 18 inch chrome rims on it  I was going to post of pic of me sitting in my clients racing edition Lamborghini Diablo but decided it was too cheesy sitting in that super flashy car! :D
