speedometer

I have 500 SL 1990 and I have problem with speedometer. When I start the car, speedometer works in aprximatly 70%. But it works only, if the starting sequence last about 2 seconds, if the starting sequence is longer or shorter, then the speedometer does not work durig the ride. Any sugestions?
