speed limiter

Is the (Canadian) C Class's top speed really at 210 km/h? (Non C32 AMG)

It doesnt say anywhere in the owner's manual, but I remember on our W210 it was governed to 210kmh because it corresponded with the speed rating on the tires (HR).

Would the W203's be the same?

Haven't tried. I chickened out at speed so I don't know if there was more.

All I can tell you (we have the same car, even the same colour) ist that the actual, i.e. technical top speed with euro specifications is 235 with the manual tranny and 232 with the auto.

I read somewhere they are limited in NA (like they do it to the big ones in Europe too, at 250), but I can't remember the figure.

The other thing I heard is that the 240 (which runs well at regular European motorway speeds of, say 120-150) works hard to climb beyond 200, taking a long time to reach top speed. I've never tried it myself (in fact I set the permanent limiter in my trip computer to 180, because I want to keep my licence, and have never even gotten near that). [;)]
Hey Paquito, Can you post a picture of your engine top view pls.

I just want to compare the looks of C320 vs C240 engine. If you have seen the C320 engine is there any visual differences between the two engine? its too bad on my part, I always go to the dealer but I always checking out the C320 but not C240, if you have a top view pic. would you pls. post it.[:)][:)][;)]
Thanks,
jim

they look the same to me...
Re: Hey Paquito, Can you post a picture of your engine top view pls.

Sorry, I have no picture available and no way to produce one I can upload, at least for the moment.

But they're basically the same engines. The 240 has just been modified internally (shorter stroke) in order to create a smaller engine, to compete with other 2 1/2 litres (and ruined in the process - the 240 is inordinately weak at low revs).

So I guess they look the same, too.

The beauty of the thing is that - according to experts - it costs exactly the same to manufacture either engine. It's just a marketing gag, and also enables Mercedes to charge double the increase from 4 to 6 cylinders for the "extra" performance of the 320.

Of course I didn't know all that when I bought mine. It's relly a letdown - especially when you have one loaded with extras, as I have, where the difference to the 320 wouldn't have mattered that much anymore.

You'll know ... just step on the gas. If nothing happens, they gave you a 240, and you can sue them for giving you car phobia.

lol, ty paquito, yes I start having a car-phobia;-)
hehehe

agreed, the 240 is significantly slower than the 320... you'll notice the difference. The 240 is like the ML and the 320 is significantly faster.[:p]
top speed limited!

I can guarantee that the Canadian versions have a governed speed of about 210kmh to 225kmh. Perhaps I'm off by a few kmh, but I got so annoyed with it cutting fuel off that I set the cruise control on 205ish and let her run... Alberta - you know!

There is a chip that will bypass the governor. It does void warranty, but what else is new?

I believe the chip is called the ASR defeat chip and switch - about $475 (I don't know if that's CDN or US). the web site: www.performanceproducts.com.

Good luck,
