Hi,
Anybody knows if the harness for all the speakers are the same in all the W140?
I don't have the bose speakers and I wonder if I can put them on my car without having to redo all the wiring in the cars.
Thanks

There were two radio setups in the w140. If you have the early radio (1991-2-3), the harness is different than the later radio which came after 1993. The first version radio has a completely different wiring setup from the second. Much more complicated in the early years, they had fader control set up on the front console! And an optional 10-cd Alpine player in the trunk! But very good systems, both!

Thanks for your answer.
My car is from 1997 and I don't have bose speakers (it was optional in my country). Do you think the harness is there to be able to plug the 11 speakers?

Hmmm...

Not really sure as I am not familiar with version builds. But your dealer would surely be able to tell you! Make a trip and make a friend out of your local dealer. Likelihood you'll need him down the road is high, so get to know him now!

You need to replace all speakers with the 11 Bose speakers. You will also need the Bose amp..

Are you planning to use the factory Becker Tape player head unit? Or an aftermarket one?

Wiring up the Bose amp is not an easy task. Not straight forward like aftermarket amps.

I'm doing a similar retro fit into my 93 S320.. I installed 4 Bose speakers so far, and even straight off the deck they sound great! I can't wait till I finnish up on that setup.. I just need to get a spare Bose amp, and a few more speakers :)

No Stryker.. The "dealer" Stealership probably won't even know anything about installing the Bose system.. They just replace, they don't do "after factory" option installations..

Even if they did, their price will cost more than what you paid for the car.. Source the pieces, and get it setup up properly, just NOT at the stealership..

You will need the wire diagrams though..

Ok, MafiaDon, this ends right here, right now:

If you don't consult with a dealership in your area, you're an ass. Why? Because the greatest reservoir of knowledge about our cars resides with the dealerships.

If you know enough about our cars and can wrench them yourself, more power to you. But clearly, there are times even the most brilliant mechanic will have to consult with the dealership. Why is that so hard to comprehend?

You are influencing a number of people with your hazardous talk against the dealerships. Especially the gullible amongst us who think they can wind up spending a dime when they should be spending a dollar.

If you go into a dealership with the chip I see on your shoulder, MafiaDon, I can understand why they'd want to have little to do with you. But if you go in with a business-like attitude, you will get great service, and go home happy that your car is fixed and at a reasonable price.

Advising new owners to stay away from dealerships is a stupid mistake. Remember the poor bloke who had his car fall down on the oil pan as he was attempting to fix it because he was advised not to take his car to the dealership because it would be too expensive? Remember the stoonad who tried gluing his seat together because someone said the dealership would charge too much for the new seatcover? Remember all the others who met with disasters because they were too timid to take their cars to the dealership for the 'correct' repair? This forum is full of them!

Dealers solve problems and they do so at competitive prices, otherwise they wouldn't be in business.

Knock it off with this silly talk of 'stealerships'. You're patently WRONG.

My mercedes dealer has no idea what's going on in my car. If I had the bose he would have told me. Since I don't have it, he doesn't have a clue of what speakers I have inside. And most importantly, he can't tell if the harness to connect the 11hp is there.
I believe is there but I want to be sure before I start to take out the inner door panels. It is time consuming. If I open them one day, it's to change the speakers.
Since my model is a 1997, I'm lucky to be able to plug an aftermarket head unit.
I have nothing against the old becker, but for what I heard, only the becker mexico 2000 is great for this bose system but it doesn't match my harness.
Also I'm only using usb so only an aftermarket will do (I don't want the tape/usb gadget).
What I'm trying to achieve is to put back the acoustic sound of the 11 speakers in the car that was so great. Right now the sound is not so bad with my 6 speakers system so I can imagine how it will feel like with 11 bose.
My concern will be to find 1 or 2 aftermarket amps that will fit my harness and speakers. Again in my car it might be easier than the oldest models.
I have done lot of research here and on other forums, but I can't be sure at 100% that the wiring is there for the bose.
Also, if anyone has some data about what kind of aftermarket amps will fit the requirements for the 11 bose (2nd generation). That would be great.
Regards

I agree with that. I go to my mercedes dealer for few things. I got great service, all the time. Unfortunatly for the W140, if I'm too specific, they don't have enough data to answer correctly. If my speaker doesn't work they will change them with the new parts available from their providers that will fit my car according the piece code number. But at any case they will retrofit the data to give me the brand of the speakers I have.

Lol.. No need to get angry comrade..

I tried my local stealership.. They did not even know how many keys the W140 was suppose to come with, and which one I was looking for.. "Wealth of knowledge?" Please..

They just interested in selling new cars, that break down more often. Even tried to offer me one, I told them I don't want their plastic junk, I'll drive my "tank" thank you..

You might have a seemingly "helpful" stealership near you stryker, and yes they will lick your ass because they raping your wallet everytime you visit them..

I tried getting rotors for the S500, they want to charge over $150 each??? Ridiculous, in every sense of the word.. I walked out laughing..

I have no respect for people that try to rob me in broad daylight, hence the term "STEALERSHIP" is appropriate in my opinion..

I try give the comrades a way to figure out their problems cost effectively and learn more about their cars. You just suggest that they go to the STEALERSHIP for every squeak and rattle.. So honestly, who is the real ASS here?

Been there done that on this topic, not with a W140 but with a W202. The dealership knows nothing about the Audio systems (atleast the 2 in my area). They are lucky enough to know the car did come with some speakers for music!

This would be a somewhat complicated install in the car. What I did in my W202 (Non Bose) was get all the factory Bose speakers which were optional, install them into the factory locations for that model and AMP them all using an aftermarket amp while still retaining the factory headunit. When compared to the complete original Bose AMP setup in another vehicle, my install sounded more crisp and powerful.

Nice one comrade!

What amp did you use and how many channels? How did you wire it up I'm interested to know.

How many speakers were part of that system?

Similar system to the W140 except 8 speakers.

You can use a 6 channel amp with the signal going to the amp from headunit then out to all the speakers. Friend did it so its hard to remember sorry.
