How do you trake out the front speakers??

I couldn't figure out how to get the front speakers out either. I took the grille off and there were no screws... It's almost like it was glued in. I am tempted to cut the cone out and see if there's anything I can take out. The rear speakers are pretty self-explanitory to remove. I have 4x6s in the back. I'd like to put some infinity Kappa 4' speakers in the front and use the stock speaker grills so they aren't obvious I have some sweet speakers in there.

Re: How do you trake out the front speakers??

well, i replaced my dash one time and i took out the front speakers. very easy to do, mine were held in place by screws. i just took off the grille and unscrewed the speakers and out they came. a good way to check if they are glued in or fastened down wit brackets possibly from the inside, is to remove the glove box completely.

ryan
'87 2.3-16v

190E speakers

Aloha from Hawaii... Just bought 4 4' Alpine speakers for my 1988 190E... Looking around the front speakers, it looks like there is some type of magnet holding them in place (unable to find any type of glue around them)... Rear speakers screwed in...

Re: 190E speakers

The rear speakers in mine were just simply screwed down. They had the little clips around the holes for something for the screw to bite. I cut bigger holes in the rear deck. Took probably 30 minutes at least per speaker. Really a pain in the ass!!! I have changed speaker sizes twice... NOT FUN AT ALL! I am sticking with 4x6 mostly because nothing bigger will fit and I don't wan't to do that again!

I will take a day to take out the glove box and see how the speaker is in there. I don't have the spare money to go buy a set of speakers though.

Hi Mr. B,

I'm very big into the speaker DIY community. Go to my site www.jonbrinkerhoff.com and see some pictures of what I have done. The best prices will be from www.partsexpress.com . The absolute best in sound quality will come from a Morel; #297-012 if you do a search for it in the box at the top of the Parts express home page. With its high Qts, it is well suited for 'free air use' but it is 8 ohms, which would require you to add some separate amps. If yer' looking for a quick fix, just look for 4'ers under car audio. And if you would like to learn more, go to the Tech Talk board at the bottom of the main page. The people there are very knowledgeable and would love to help you.

Jon-Michael
