I have found that if you buy a cheap 17 mm open end spanner and bend the first 2 inches (5 cm) it just fits over the plug cap and then wedge against the head and with a slight bit of pressure towards the head pops the plug cap easy without damaging the HT leads. These can be pritty tight some times. N.B. don't pull on the HT leads to remove the plug caps or you can well pull the leads out of the caps. Please don't remind me here...and that's because my A6 is also due...:cryingThink of the timing belt on an Audi. ....
I agree....don't throw money away.......Changing plug wires and coils prophylactically seems like a waste of cash. ....
Wow, I would get on those plugs as soon as you can. They should be changed every 60k. Especially since you have a Turbo. The turbo plugs get fouled up very quickly. Plug #4 is a real B*tch.I have the Platinum plugs installed I bought at Mercedes. I think they were Bosch. Their installs were staggered by about 35,000 kms (strange I know but I was doing some troubleshooting at the time and as they are such a bitch to do, I only did the two I had to at the time). Any way, the oldest two have 130,000 kms on them and they are still going strong. I will buckle under and do all four in a couple of months to get ready for winter. Worst vehicle I have EVER had to change spark plugs on but it Can be done. You need to jack the car up good and high (make sure you have solid support), and a large vocabulary of swear words to heap on the vehicle.
