I am wondering if there is a recommendation on a replacement time for the spare. I have heard two numbers: 6 years and 10 years.
What is your understanding?

Great question Tom !

I will check around. We should know this, right ?

If anyone can address this & maybe a source for a new spare tire that is within reason cost wise, I'd be thankful.

My particular spare tire is: Dunlop Space Mizer T155/90 D 18...rating 113M.
It was made in October 2001, per the sidewall date code.

This is on our 2002 ML500.

I noted it leaked down to empty, on vacation last summer in Colorado, after filling it shortly before departure.

Concerned, I observed that the valve stem had rotted thru, so it was bad, not the tire (yet).

A tire shop replaced the valve stem, and I refilled to 60 psi per the spec.

Now, a year later, I just pulled it out for my impending Rear Shock R & I, and it showed 40 psi remaining.

So, this suggests my spare is still OK. But it's 15 years old, and probably time to replace it just to be prepared.

Have any of you replaced your spare, yet ? Details please....

Just an FWIW account....

Cheers, David in East Texas

I just pulled one from a 2013 totalled Mazda CX7 in that size. I am waitng for another. It was $40. I mounted it on the ML wheel because the CX7 wheel had a different offset.

There are other later MBs, Lexus, and Mazdas that use that size.

For a new one Goodyear and Dunlop dealers are asking in excess of $200 for that tire. It is a joke, but they make very few in comparison to regular tires.

I did lightly grind the bead flanges to remove a small amount of rust.
Painted it with Wurth black wheel paint and did use just the minimal amount of bead sealer needed.
Then balanced it and put it back in the carrier.

Thought I'd let the forum know that I had the local Discount Tire store order a spare from Tire Rack. Total cost was $135 which included balance and tire disposal fee.
The build date on the new spare was Oct 2017.
