Well tonight I pulled most of the trunk out and installed sound deadener. I bought Fatman but when it came today I opened the box and was hit with the smell of asphalt. They said it had no odor but that wasn't the case. So I am going to send that back. I found 1/8" thick adheisive foam at Home Depot and installed that instead. 15 Sq feet was $17.70 it took a little over one roll to do the trunk and about 3 hours. I was going to pull the side panels but there is 1/2" padding behind there so I didn't see the need. Man what a night and day difference in quietness. I could really hear a difference on my way home this evening. Alot quieter.

Sound Deadener

Sweet SLK, that is an interesting to Dynamat which several of us have installed. Your solution is much cheaper. I have been very satisfied with Dynamat. Have you considered putting in the openings of the trunk lid, then covering it with black carpet.

Is duct insulation a good sound deadener? I mean you can't beat the price at 20 dollars for the entire trunk, but how much quieter would Dynamat have been?

Also, how sticky is this stuff? I know that Dynamat is a mess to get off once installed/stuck, but I bet this material is a bit easier to work with. Either way, pictures looks great and it's something I am definitely considering.

I might do the trunk lid but I haven't decided yet. Made a big difference in sound. The foam deadener I used is open cell. I've never had a water problem in the trunk. This foam is no different then in the interior under the carpet. I had a leak and the foam under the carpet was like a giant sponge. As long as you don't have a water problem in the trunk I would think you would be fine. On Sunday I replaced the stock amp and woofers. I will post pictures of that tonight.
