The Trunk Lid on my 1986 560SL rattles when I close it.
In addition, when I shut the drivers or passenger doors it
also causes the Trunk Lid to rattle. What is happening is the
braces on the underside of the Trunk Lid bounces with the outter
skin.

(BTW, my 560SL has been repainted and the PO also painted the inside
of the Trunk Lid.)

Went to a craft store and found some rubber sheets and cut them
to fit between the inside braces. Rattle eliminated and now the
doors have that Mercedes vault like sound when closed.

I could not find a large enough piece of sheet rubber for each
panel and I have a seam that I glued holding it in place. Like
to know of a slow setting glue if I decide to do the other two panels.
For the rubber I've already installed I pulled back at the seam and used
some gel super glue.

There should be pads between the braces and the outer skin to prevent this. Inside should not be body color. Apparently the PO removed the pads to paint.

Got the idea when I saw Pearon's customized R107 at
Roncallo's GTG. He used some kind of material
on the inside of the Trunk Lid too.

You can use your contact cement. Put it on heavy and don't let it dry.....it will give you time to move your piece around. It will dry in situ.

That is a great suggestion. I had forgotten that I had a roll of that liner.
It's as thick as what I used but a little shinnyer. Went out and layed it
up on the trunk to see if it is wide enough.
Nice thing about the toolbox liner is that it will fit as a single piece
and is less expensive too. That was a great hint.
