Wheel discussions here are so much fun I thought I'd post some ideas I've been playing with[8D] Anyway the first pic is what's on the car now. The previous owner loved them; me, not so much. Second is Pentas, traditional look but harder to find nice ones. Last is a more modern look which I kinda like but the wheels would only be 7.5" Enjoy, and try to imagine the car all shiny and bright, it will be soon.

Yeah, I probably will but it seems more and more people are putting pentas on. Don't want the car to not stand out[:D]

As your car is a first series W126 I'd go for the pentas. I also think they look best on the picture.

Now go find some nice ones [8D]

wow what a differance! on the pentas to the amg.
I would do the last.
you mean the other way around .... the pentas are AMGs and the other wheels are factory R129 wheels [;)]

If you didn't live on the other side of the world I'd offer to buy yours.

Wow no arguments. I guess that shows how conservative my taste in wheels is.[:)]

No, you’re simply exhibiting good taste – the rims are the right size and appropriate for the sedan. I like number three from the top.

(then again, your thread is only about six hours old as I post…)

It's hard to beat the monoblocks. Go for the 3rd! I DO like the pic of the pentas in one solid silver, though.

(See, I didn't start nuttin')[:p][:)]

I can GUARANTEE you this; monoblocks are a CAN'T miss. Yeah, I came here, I had my Carlsson's, and wondered why aaaaall anyone could talk about were monoblocks. Then I got my 190E. THEN I got a great deal on some monoblocks. Staggered! NOW I know what all the hubbub was about. Trust me, you COULD get n something else, but you would NOT regret getting monoblocks.

Does anyone know what the largest offset for 87 350 SDL is?

I need to find out if 38mm offset wheels from a 2003 S class will fit.

I like the first picture, the two piece look.

With the all white body, the fluted w126 body panels and the add on areo kit the monoblocks look kind of plain, understated, anticlimatic.

Like sensible shoes with a flashy suit.

If your gonna go, go all out.

On a dark bankers benz like mine the monos work.

Just my opinion

Still a lot of discussion on what offset (ET) is appropriate for our cars.

Talbir did a long write-up on this subject and the rule of thumb that I got out of it was that if the offset is greater than 25, you should be looking at spacers to avoid rubbing issues and also to make it look better (wheel too far inwards from the fender..).

Here is what Talbir wrote:

"I 'll say what I said in my original post again - 8J with et23 works ABSOLUTELY FINE, even on a lowered SEC. This statement takes into account width and offset of wheel.

Infact, 8.5J with ET 25 works ABSOLUTELY fine on the W126. If you don't believe me, just look at Satish's SEC - 2-piece original AMG wheels, 8.5J x 18 fronts with ET 25mm. Absolutely perfect. And no spacers.

The stock wheels, 7.5J with ET 25 are not anywhere near proper. They sit so deep inside the arch. So bringing the wheel half inch out does NOT mean the wheel will rub the arch. Because it sits further than half inch away in the first place. Infact i sits more than an inch away.

My AMG lowered 500SEC wears original AMG 5-spoke wheels designed for the W126 : 8J x 16 ET 11 - NO rubbing problems at anytime. And this car wears the lowest AMG springs.

With 18's, you can go to 8.5" width and ET 25mm and it will work fine, so long as the car is not aggresively lowered.

Talbir"

Here is the spreadsheet he provided:

width (in) width (mm) centre (mm) offset distance from outer rim to hub (in) diff to stock (in) Spacer (mm)
8.0 203.2 101.6 11 3.57 0.801 0 AMG spec
8.0 203.2 101.6 23 3.09 0.329 0
8.5 215.9 107.95 18 3.54 0.776 0 AMG spec
7.5 190.5 95.25 25 2.77 0.000 0 Stock w126 MB spec
rear 9.0 228.6 114.3 9 4.15 1.380 20
8.5 215.9 107.95 25 3.27 0.500 0
rear 10.0 254 127 25 4.02 1.250 0 AMG spec
rear 10.0 254 127 17 4.33 1.565 0 AMG spec
rear 9.0 228.6 114.3 0 4.50 1.734 0 AMG spec
rear 10.0 254 127 -12.7 5.50 2.734 0 AMG spec for widebody

Hope this helps.
