After being thoroughly disappointed by my ML350 (W163), I sold mine yesterday in anticipation of the new MB models coming out.

What I can't decide now is what to buy for my 60+ year old moms birthday present?? I'm guessing it will either be between the 164, 209 or CLS since the G is still too far off in terms of production and I would like to get her car in the first half of this year.

So what I'm basicly asking is for your ideas? No cabrios/vario roofs, preferentialy no coupes, and the engine should be no larger than the 350.

You should check out the Landrover LR3 - HSE. So the engine is bigger, but so is the torque.

What were your ML350 expectations?

I'm curious what features (or lack thereof) were disappointing to you.

FWIW, I have an ML350 and although i've had problems with it the MB service department nearby almost always knows how to fix it.

Personally I find the LR3 (or Discovery 3 in the UK) a bit of a joke. I'd rather buy another Defender 110 over that. Have you seen where they put the window switches in the LR3 - that should give you an idea as to how much thought (or lack of) went into that things design.

As for the engine size, its a tax thing so it has to be near a 350.

From day one it never drove right, it kept overheating and breaking down, and of course my dealer could never get it fixed properly. It never felt like the ML320 I test drive, even though mine was a sport model with all the right add-ons. In short I was thouroughly disappointed in general. It never felt like it deserved that star on the hood. Sad though, I had high hopes for the ML.

Oh yeah, after buying an 05 E320, 03 CL600 & 04 ML350 from the same Dealer they used to give me a toyota as a courtesy car??? you have got to be kidding. More reasons why my bros next supercar will not have a 3 pointed star on the hood.

That sucks big time! I'm curious if you tried to have another dealer look into the problems you mentioned. I already put 30K miles on my ML350 but it never overheated nor got me stuck on the road (knock on poplar wood).

It seems the type of loaner car you get is solely at dealers discretion and/or your timing. For example, my MB dealer give out loaners atleast a "C" class, "ML" class, or an "E" class IF (and this is the catch) you schedule your appointment early enough in the a.m. Otherwise you get a toyota something.

I've had a C240, C240 4matic, C240 Wagon, an ML350 Special Edition, an ML350 Inspiration Edition, and an E-class wagon in the past as loaners, but never had a toyota camry.

What to buy your MOM? How about some flowers and/or candy. A Mercedes is what you buy for your hot girl friend!!
She has survived cancer in 1990 and again in 2002. She should be able to have a HUGE smile on her face as long as she can.

That would be ideal, but the tax in pakistan for importing a car is currently near 200% so she could have 1 C55 there or 3 in the UK.[:(!] (hence why most of my cars are 6's)

BTW - I tried almost all the dealers in Dubai, and they all told me that most ML350's sold in the UAE had overheating problems.
