besides a decent amount of cab/bed rust which i can deal with now. There was an issue with the front axle looking and feeling like the locker was engaged when pulling out of its parking sport. I watched the owner pull it out and said to myself hmmm who parks with the lockers engaged, then asked him he said they are in the off position.

We tried to get the feeling to go away by locking and unlocking etc still felt wierd. Any opinions I know this is super vague I apologize.

It might have seized on, its supposed to be oiled as part of the regular maintenance. That being said, if its been seized on for a while, that's not good.

Could also be something wrong with the air system holding pressure on it, you could take the supply (top of the axle on the longer tube side, you'll see the drain for the locker directly underneath on the bottom of the axle) line off and see if it dumps air, you should be able to hear it go "CLUNK!" on an off, I can hear it in the cab while driving so you should be able to hear it standing outside.

It would be helpful to know if its an Ex-Mil U1300L with the deep fording system as well, diagnosing might be different with that system.

That's good to know! yes its an ex mill, it has the air lines going to the headlights so I'm guessing its deep fording.

Do not overpay, and do not underestimate the amount of rust. It will be 3-4x worse than you think.

How about the Red one on e-bay? $16K...probably pick it up for a cool 15. (no financial int).

I still have mine...at $22K, '85 ex-military with Class Overdrive. Everything new and would consider partial diesel trades.

I'll vouch for Chris at Vermont Unimog, he works very hard, and Vermont-Unimog is not his only game. Be patient, he is a top notch guy. Very few people can make a living doing just Mogs.

While looking around, there is a nice 1300 in NJ for sale (see the new upstart alternate to the Exchange). Others can say more than I, but the owner is a good guy and has a nice truck. Hope this is a good lead.

You know, Chris McPhee and I have been on the phone, only days agao, but now that I'm thinking about it, I was using his personal phone number (please don't think me rude, but I won't share it as it is not published) because he was having trouble with his 1-800 carrier. E-mail works for sure.

I couldn't think of the Exhange upstart at the time I wrote my last reply: it is: Unimog Classifieds | Unimog® Shop

Bob's a good guy, and has been instramental in helping at least one other Mogger in our area get a Mog. He's on this forum rather frequently.
