So i have a 2007 s550 it needs some work engine wise

Tried to look it up on Google but can't find info about timing chain replacement and whats involved only shop cost seen one for a 90s model v8. And it was already torn down.

I got access to either a 2 post lift or 4 if i need it but not sure how long it could take so won't be doing it that way unless its really needed. Also access to every tool i could need and a very expensive scan tool.

Don't have the coin for a fsm (im cheap haha) would rather find a video to see what what's involved and if its something i can take on.

If i do this what else would be worth replacing it has 120k and only gets driven about 4 miles a day currently to work.

Will probably buy a fsm if i do keep the car.

I still have a transmission issue probably sensor related as its speed related also the shop scanner pulled up torque converter lockup is not possible or known as code P2757.

Been told by dealership and a friend of mine who works on these (but not that involved in repair just minor) that the noise im hearing is coming from the timing chain. And it does follow rpm.

Dealership quoted me 2k just to dig into it i figured i can take it on in my spare time at work and save some coin otherwise car is getting traded in (love the car but the repair for that is costly

Operational fault of component g2 (generator) P0620

Using a snap-on zeus scan tool (sucker cost more than what i paid for the car haha)

I don't see many stretched timing chains on that engine series, that's why I asked. The more common issue is the balance shaft but you don't have the codes for that.

Ya i wonder if it's the timing chain guides are out of spec

I bought the car used didn't have any engine noise that made me worry the transmission i couldn't test due to location of dealership and time (heavy traffic and they were about to close)

About a day later took it to the tire shop out of town to get 4 new tires (wasn't cheap but didn't feel like ordering) even though i had to because they put 255/45 on front when it had 255/40

Then took it to my dad's house out of town started it up for him and started making that ticking sound. Been driving it some since 1/26/23 tick hasn't changed any.

How can i test the balance shaft? It might be causing the noise without setting a cel?

My worries are even though I've been told its timing chain don't want to tear into it and find out it's not that.

Also i was looking at the car today and noticed a sensor was slightly unplugged (saw orange gasket location was passanger side near in the head.

Hopefully that fixes it because my mind a connection that is slightly loose will cause issues even though it may not be enough to set a cel. Haven't started it yet will do it Monday morning.

Because car had no engine noise prior to buying but took it down my dads county road about 300yrds at slow speed and it has it. Had i haven't put that many miles on it maybe 120 or less since i got it up to that point.

Can the shop scan tool which is snap on zeus show me the engine sensors i know it can data log but not sure if it will show the things i need to see.

I know my torque pro setup doesn't show much but showed this code that didn't show up on the shop scanner

Find a shop that has DAS Xentry or buy a copy for yourself. It has all the test routines and repair instructions for your Mercedes. Don’t play parts darts with these cars, expensive and can cause issues.
