I put in Pennzoil 10W-40 over the weekend but what are others using / what is recommended? Also, everyone, are there brands to stay away from in your experience? Conversely, what about those really high-end expensive oils like Voll-Synthese at $7+/quart? Is there a difference here in quality? Thanks. <br>

10w-40 is a poor grade choice in any Brand - most modern (post 1970' gas crunch) cars are designed to run with 10w-30 on a High milage engine or for very HOT climates 20w-50 is preffered. Pennzoil is ok butIMHO Castrol GTX is the best non-Synthetic. Synthetics provide superior protection and reduce friction but are expensive and of questionable value if the engine consumes more tha 1qt/1500mi, Too costly and high consumption usually means the oil is getting contaminated with blow-by combustion products and needs to be cahnge at shorter intervals anyway negating the long life properties of the synthetic.
