Tonight, I opened up the drivers door of my 92300te and the puddle lamp didn't go on. The passenger opened up their door and thats when the trouble started. . .
The drivers and passengers puddle lamp went on, and within seconds, smoke was pouring (POURING) out of the drivers puddle lamp. Luckily I had a screwdriver in the door compartment and I popped out the light and yanked out the connectors from the lamp to the wires. There was an extra set of wires attached to the prongs which must have been attached to something aftermarket at one point. The aftermarket wires were the source of the smoke, the sheath had been melted completely off, they were completely exposed. Once i detached the wires, the smoke stopped. Problem solved, right?? wrong!
I hooked the connectors up and the drivers puddle light didn't go back on when the drivers door opened, only with the passenger.
Then, on the way home, the rear lights all came on and wouldn't go off with the dash switch (and yes, I checked the doors). When I got home, I pulled out the fuse (c) and the rear lights all went off, but the puddle lamps all came on (dimly)! Very strange because they're all supposed to be on the same fuse.
Then, I switched the rear passenger light control light to the off position. This caused the rear puddle lamps to go off, but not the front ones. I manually removed the front ones. Now, I'm hoping that the battery doesn't drain over night.
Any thoughts on what this means, or how to fix it?
Also, since I've had the car, the map light and front dome light haven't worked.
I'm thinking that there's some relay that's shot... but have no idea how to locate or diagnose this problem, without causing more harm then good.
HELP PLEASE!!
