Smog pump makes dry noise when rotating. Just unbuilt the unit out of the 1986 560SL. I am going to replace the old brittle and hardened hoses. Thanks to Florida BW member his help to get the correct US spec hoses - my local MB dealer Euro database tried to sold me totally wrong hoses.

Does anyone know how the smog pump internal bearings can be renewed?

Any advice is most welcome!

Some updates

MB Spare smog hoses have allign marks into the vacuum switch, look the pics.

The smog pump has similar two non-centric circle lamel working principal as the power steering pump has, instead of oil it pumps air. The dry noise was from light internal surface corrosion. I sprayed some WD 40 into pump internal parts and dried the excess oil in tissue paper => the noise is now gone, hope permanently. The smog pump axle and V-belt bearings themself were OK.

I used the momentum and cleaned this corner of engine bay from all the debris and dust.

Thanks. I had nothing to offer on this as I have never worked on one of these. Good explanation and pics as usual.
