Gents,

How often do I need to replace the battery in my smart key remote control?
Is there a procedure on how to do that?

I have a feeling my battery is dying, the other night I pushed the lock button several times and nothing happened.
Couple of days ago I was pushing the unlock button and it wouldn't open 'till I pressed it several times.

Any feed back will be highly appreciated.

I have been changing mine every two years...No problems so far - Not worth the 12 dollars in aggravation if it does not work. I am aware you can open the door with the switch blade key – but I am not sure if the car will recognize the key through the IR if the battery is dead. When I change the battery I also lube the door lock tumblers – around here I have had a few friends locked out of their car due to a dead battery in the fob – then the door handle key tumbler is rusted or frozen shut!

It is not hard to change – the operator’s manual tells you – it requires removing the switch blade key and using it to unlock and split open the key!

Good luck,
Jake

The owners manual states the car will recognize the key even if they battery is dead in the key. But still, good plan on a 2 year replacement interval.
Need to do that myself!

Speaking of keys/batteries, I was chaging the battery on my smart key remote and I broke the little finger-sliding-switch-thingy to release the metal key! Now my metal key will not stay in the remote! Do I need to get a whole new remote?

Really! I will have to go back and look...Not that I doubt you - But I don't recall that...I am a dork and have thought I did a pretty good job on reading that book...

Thanks!

Well, I could be wrong, I just took a look at the owners manual, it just states that in an emergency where the key won't unlock wirelessly, use the te
metal key, and put the key in the dash to stop the alarm.

Then again, there's a part about "emergency shut off" where it says if you can't stop the engine due to the key not coming out, (apparently due to a dead battery?) that you need to remove 2 fuses, but fail to specify which fuses....of course.

Maybe I'll try mine with the battery out to see what happens.

Thanks for reminding me on this:
I just ordered a 5 pack from Amazon.com for about 8 bucks including shipping.
Radio shack wants 5 bucks each!

I've been changing mine every six months. I place the old batteries in my spare key and the new ones it the main key. The batteries from the spare key are the same as the ones in an LED flashlight I have, so I put them in there. Like Jake said, the aggravation over a dead key isn't worth saving $12 once in a while for batteries.

Here's a common sense guess....the fuses are probably the ignition fuses, this would be my guess to both shut the car off and get the key back. (or drive to a store, car IS running :D, and replace battery turn car off)

But any relay under the hood will kill the car if it's pulled, however may have consequences to the computers that have to be reprogrammed if certain actions are taken, this may be one of those actions. So I'd start at the ignition fuses, certainly won't be the fuses for the horn.
