I have heard there are problems with the smart key on the c and ml class. I am interested in buying a clk and am wondering if this has been addressed in the 02 models. <br>
Thank you for your thoughts

The problem is that there is a little transponder in the key. If you put weight on it, it gets out of position with the sensor in the steering column. If you bounce over railroad tracks or rough roads w/ other keys on your car key, guess what happens? the transponder in the key can lose contact and the engine will shut down.

I never heard any problems concerning the CLK. Maybe other models...

Only thing I get irritated about is the range but a change of battery fixed that quickly.

Thank you for the input. The specific posts I had seen were on Edmunds on the c class forum. It appears this issue has been addressed. Still all sold at dealers before arrival, clearly a well executed car.

My service advisor said that some of the new C class keys are not working at all...

but that they have had no problems with any CLK's
