I bought a spare SLS valve on ebay and today and started cleaning it up.
All the hydraulic lines to the valve had been cut and it took some time to loosen up the fittings and bleed screw.

The weird thing was, when I removed the fittings, 2 of the pipes had metal wire in them which was pretty much blocking them. They were the 2 nearest the bleed screw in the photos.

Any know why that would be there?

Very srange - My thought on this is the wire was put in to form the bend in the pipe and never removed .As it was bent it would be impossible to remove the wire after .

Even stranger is that they appear to be the original hydraulic lines with the factory coating on them.

I wonder if they weren't there as a restrictor to control fluid flow rates from the valve to the spheres.

Does anyone know the size of the large ball bearing in the SLS valve? The one is this valve is a little rough. Hmm looks to be about 6mm?

Just to add to this.
I came across a W124 thread that found the same bit of rod/wire in the SLS pipe. Still don't know its purpose.
I'm about to change these lines too.

Yes I've sprung a leak underneath and since the pipes have been jointed/repaired already I am now looking at complete replacement. Has anybody here done this with copper,kunifer instead of the 6mm steel pipes? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294188411107
