There's a company in Europe (forgot now, but it might have been German) that do it for 6000euro. Apparently the work is top notch.

Also, a Swiss company told me (in last years Geneva car show) that they will offer the same mod. No mention of price however.

These are the guys in Germany who propose the LSD doors: http://www.indendesign.de

The guys from Switzerland were: http://www.fab-design.com (but I'm not yet sure if they actually make the LSD doors, I was only told by them that they would make 'em. I'll probably find out in a months time when I go to the next auto show).

Pics of the doors: http://www.indendesign.de/html/kfz_galerie.php (and then choose the R171.... it's a few pages later that you can see pics of the LSD doors...)

It doesnt look like there is a great deal of room to get in and out of the car with these doors. Gull wings on the old SL are a classic but then they had a roof to pivot from. Since the SL and SLK dont have a fixed roof its not such a great idea IMO

That looks very strange...not sure I like it. I like the doors that open toward the top like the DeLorean. Of course, being a convertible that would not work on the SLK but I am not sure this slanted door opening adds anything to the look of the car IMHO.

If I am not mistaken, some of these doors first open out like a normal door then they swing up. I would want to see them in action before I made a commitment.
Yea that's exactly how they open. Very shaky when open. It requires opening up the inner fender to mount the hinge system. They are very poplular among the JDM show scene. Doesn't belong on any luxury vehicle IMO.

The system for opening the door on the SL from Fab is a slightly different system. It opens more akin to real lambo door. Not the kind where you first push them out a bit before lifting them up.

Maybe if Fab made the same for the SLK, it would be cool. But it really depends on the lock system. You'll have to replace it as you cannot 'drop' the door in place as the lock needs to be seated inside a caveat in the door...
