I drove an SLR for about 45 minutes during a Mercedes Benz promotional event. No restraints or conditions. I found the SLR the most surprising vehicle that I have ever driven. I've heard about the extreme maintenance requirements in owning one. I would love to hear from an owner or previous owner about if the maintenance required can outweigh the beneficial joys of ownership. I have many cars, but this is one that left a burning impression that I might want to re-live on some of the world's great roads.

Amazing things. Not many around though I don't think.
If you get one, we need to hear all about it. I find them a bit fascinating.

i owned an '08 SLR for 3 yrs, no mechanical problems at all, maybe i was just lucky, the brakes of are most concern, but they're ceramic and with usual normal braking there should be no issues. if you do get one it can only, for the most part, be serviced at a MB dealer by a SLR trained tech, so you might want to look into that, i bought mine with 3000 miles and sold it with 18000 miles, like i said noproblems,, good luck!
