Slow acceleration, period.

I try to go up the highway at an incline, that for other cars is perfectly fine. Instead it feels like it lags behind at around 45, then when I am flat it "catches its breath" then I can hit whatever speed I desire. Is this normal for the car, I know it is heavy but damn c'mon I seriously don't remember it being that slow.

Also, I changed the:
Camshaft Sensor
EGR Valve
MAF Sensor cleaned!
Throttle Body Cleaned! (Tomorrow, by the time you read this) ****See end of page for questions I have on how to clean it!****
Checked the Sparkplugs and they are excellent!

In essence I am having an acceleration issue.
I have done the minor and most common fixes with no improvement.

******HOWEVER, THIS IS THE BIG PART******

Under the accelerator pedal, I noticed a part that it hits down on when it is pushed completely on the ground. I hear it click, and then it jumps, I mean Van Halen style! The car takes about a second to react to the click, then it roars with power and you hear the engine working hard. Almost like clicking a nitrous button or something. I feel like this thing is important to the whole speed thing, however, I have no idea what it is or if its even broken, or how to check if it is broken.

**** About cleaning the throttle body, should I spry throttle body cleaner in it and on the sides as well as when it is open too, or is this going to mess up my engine???!!!
Please say if you have already done this with the CRC throttle body cleaner. I don't want to kill my engine, then have more than just a speed issue. So only if you've had experience. I am also saying that if I attempt to clean it, i am not removing it, so if you cleaned it with the spray that's great, but did you remove the entire thing?

Just found out the switch is called: Kick Down Switch

I am pretty sure it "boosts" the speed? But would like to know how to tell if its bad or good. I know it takes a lot to press it and click it for the speed to be released. Isn't it supposed to be easy to depress, like a tennis ball resistance, not a harsh slamming of the pedal to click it to get to fast speeds?

I am guessing it isn't supposed to be down that low either, should it be sticking out, not on the floor?

Just please help me!

The Kick Down switch when fully depressed does a klick sound like you experienced , it should only be used if you overtaking another car on a single road lane or other quick needed overtakes or manoeuvres .
The pressure you need to activate it would be something like if you extinguish a cigarette with your shoe something like that ,not much power but more then usual .
If your engine looses power driving uphill , most likely cause is water contamination in your tank ,either from the petrol station that you filled up at or due to heavy rain & with the filler cap not tightened properly .
Another cause that could apply ,clogged fuel filter or petrol pump or both .
Try using Metholated Spirits into the tank ,2 litres or even 3 to half a tank of Petrol ,this will dry the water up instantly, I do it all the time ,perfectly harmless to your engine or buy the proper product , but could be expensive , the only thing you get adding Metho is a whitish tailpipe temporarily .
What condition is your Exhaust system in ,check it if you never have ,could even be a clogged up muffler .

BTW Michael : Once i had a realy good uphill drive with Joe Trojan , he had his S280 & me with my S600 behind him ,UPHILL that S280 flew like a Rocket , ok I could have overtaken Joe but I was more amazed of how fast that little engine propelled the heavy S280 up that curvy step hill & we reached pretty high speeds as well ,there was certainly no water in his tank that day lol.

I had the same problem with my 97 S320 a while back. The problem was the camshaft magnet. Not the sensor.

Easy repair and inexpensive.

Where is that located? Do you have a picture? Did you buy anything, or just clean it?

I really appreciate the response, thank you.

I will check those things tomorrow, since it is nighttime here lol, also any good links to how to look at those things would be greatly appreciated! I'm not very familiar with cars since I haven't had much time growing up with them if you know what I mean.

Also, I can reach high speeds no problem, it's just when I try to go up this one ramp by my house, maybe it's just me. But I don't remember having to much trouble in the past going up hill.

Will I do any harm to my car by using that "clicker" a lot? Or should it be something more reserved for emergencies? I don't want to overuse it and cause more wear and tear on my engine.

Thank you for your fast response.

The can magnet is at the front of the engine. I replaced it. Takes about 5 mins to do the job. Purchase it from the dealer and also get the sealant.

How did you know it was the camshaft magnet? does it trigger a code? How did you know it wasn't the camshaft position sensor?
I didn't say it was the magnet....
I just replaced the sensor, since I was told to by my dad who is very knowledgeable on cars, and literally fixes everyone's cars and gets them running like new every time.

No code for the cam or crank specifically.
From what I remember the O'reilys readout was for:

Vehicle speed sensor (Fixed it by simply cleaning them, they were filthy)
And an EGR valve that was not working.

I replaced the EGR, the cam and crank sensors, I will see if I can find the cam magnet for cheap. If not oh well.

****HOWEVER****
I have just tested my car today, and for whatever reason it is getting up to speeds as it should, which makes me very happy, but I want to make sure this is to stay not just due to dumb coincidence.

Go here to see my other question, how to clean my throttle body, any help greatly appreciated!

Sfalkenberg,

Seth

Research is how I found the problem. I talked with some technicians and reading online.

The part is not expensive to replace.
