HELP!!! I have a 2005 SLK 55 AMG for just over a year. From the beginning, it has suffered from an intermittent stalling problem --- while I'm driving!!! It only happens at low speed (thank goodness), around 25 - 30 miles/hr. Months can go by with no problem and then all of a sudden, it will happen a few times within a week or two. Then it will disappear! Two Mercedes dealers are mystified and say they cannot duplicate or find the problem.

It's scary when it happens. I put the car in neutral, turn the ignition off, then back on and the car starts right up.

Weird!!

Have you ever heard of such a thing?

I had something similar happen to my E320 and BMW 325i. On the E, it was the mass air sensor that was defective. On the BMW it was the intake valve sensor at one time, and the exhaust valve sensor at another occasion.

Yup, sounds familiar

I had precisely the same issue with a '99 CLK320. I would be driving along and usually when it hit a small bump and only very occasionally, the engine would simply die. I had to stop and restart the car (couple of times, nearly got into an accident because of it). In spite of repeated multi-day visits to the dealer, culminating with a visit from their regional "expert", they were never able to find the problem after 9 months of trying. Apparently on the last visit, they went thru virtually every inch of wiring in the car... still no joy.

I finally was able to negotiate a fairly reasonable trade-in value and got my choice of MBZ at dealer cost. That's what got me into an SLK (R170 K230, and later a R171 SLK350).

I wish you the best of luck and hope they can find the problem.

Best,
Jerry
