The only extra things I would wish for in my SLK32 AMG are:
1. A front/rear fader.
WHAT THE %#[email protected]%!!! WERE THEY THINKING. Those idiots at MB have been selling high end cars containing multiple speakers without fader controls for a few years now. To add insult to injury (or is it insult to extreme stupidness?), they now give you such a foo foo dash as to make it really difficult to swap out the shitty head unit! Oh the pain, the pain...

You already bought a TT? Why are you still here?
I loved my SLK320.....and I love cars....that is why I'm here. Why, you have a problem with me discussing Mercedes at a Mercedes chat board?
I don't know that I'd call it a discussion, more like a rant. If you don't like like it go bitch on the 171 board

All those buttons do have a function tho'. Activate/deactivate ESP, seat heaters, airscarf, parktronic, door locks, etc...

This car has a lot more functions then the old one ever did, it's called "progression". Nobody is forcing anyone to buy stuff they don't want, so if you don't like it, just let it drop.

Having said that, the picture shows a "souped up" SLK, i.e. one with all the options you would ever need or want.

If you don't want them, you can get the standard radio with 3 times less buttons, no heated seats, airscarf and so on, which removed half the buttons on the middle row, and swap the bottom portion which is the airconditioning, to the simple 4 dial setup.

That's interesting that you have the option for a less cluttered dashboard. The problem is that to make it look reasonable, you essentilly have to buy a car with little/no options. I drove 2 SLK350s....one was a launch edition (which was scary cause of how low the front end is!). Didn't not realize that one had the choice to go with a less cluttered dash. I agree with an earlier poster....all those knobs and buttons put the driver/passenger potentially at risk.....worse than cell phones (OUCH!!!).

I think it looks perfectly reasonable. But everyone has different taste.

A Lotus Elise has the bare minimum, and it looks good in its own way (then again, it's also a very different type of car).

There are many ways to do what has been done. In many cars, single buttons can be used for multiple functions. If I recall correctly, the old SLK had a single button to lock and unlock the car, the new one has two separate buttons.

All these buttons don't distract me at all, and I don't think it should be compared to talking on the phone which stimulates an entirely different portion of the brain requiring the speaker to create a mental image of the person on the other end of the line, and thus their attention is diverted from the road to the little thought bubble in their head.

Here, you want a minimalistic SLK dash, I did a little photochop, removed all the buttons in the middle row apart from those which must stay (even then, one of them is a blanc silver button which does nothing), and the stereo is one of the simplest ones you can have, enjoy:

Bruce, Brian, R=170???

Please move to R171 forum?

Bazzle [|)]
Bazzle,

Don't be such a freakin wuss. I posted here becuase I love the look of the R170 (owned one) and was more than a tad surprised by what they'd done with the new styling. To post at the R171 forum might be considered a bash and was just chatting with R170 owners about what I feel is an inferior new design.

Here, I was thinking it was just a discussion.....you know...chat.....opinions...and you and another poster go all boo hoo hoo? Gawd forbid I chat up anything you don't want me to here.......you best watch out Bazzle, wouldn't want people thinking there were any snobs driving Mercedes[:0]
