Hmmm....my base price was $46,220 back in November. Maybe they charged me the new price back then because of a February delivery?[?]

In a likelyhood still the cheapest in the world by a big margin. (Canada I think is not too different though.)

I know the prices in Aus, UK, SA are much higher for example. You will pay much more for a 350 in this part of the world than you pay for a 55 in the USA. I believe the 55s will cost around US$120k (A$160k) here. 350s cost around US$90k here.

Prices in Singapore are much higher still. Stratospheric is the word.

I am surprised how little the US prices have gone up, considering how much the greenback has dropped in value.

cheers

The 45500 was without the "delivery charge, which I think was the 720 difference. I did not have that, because of the Euro delivery...[;)]

I wonder if the new 46,250 is before the delivery charge...[?]

The price of all UK MB cars (including SLK) are going up by 1.7% from April 1st (about £600). I've been told that any car delivered after this date will be subject to the extra charge regardless of what you may have signed price wise. My car is due for delivery in March but looking at the small print if it's late and gets delivered in April I'll be liable. Seems like a penalty clause for me if they deliver late[?]

Told by who? This does not sound right to me. I signed an order with the purchase price on it 6 weeks ago. I guess I can bailout if the dealer charges the increase since they have had my $2K deposit for that period of time. In the US I think this would be consideed a contract. There was no "fine print" on what I signed.

Hmmm...my order form with my dealer states that "...the dealer cannot guarantee delivery or pricing. This deposit will only secure a position in line for delivery".

Hmmm? That's curious. Almost all advertising for any car says that MSRP is just a suggested price and that their retail dealers determine actual selling price.

Just to clarify on my previous post. The agreement that I signed was with the MB dealer. There is a small print clause which states that the price agreed is not fixed and can change. If you decide that the increase is excessive then you can cancel the contract.

I'm guessing every dealers contracts are different.
I've had on order a SLK 350 7G since last March 2004!

My main problem is that my car is scheduled to arrive in March and if it's late then I will have to pay the extra which I think is unfair (wheres the incentive to deliver it on-time). I have the option of walking away which they know I'm unlikely to do after waiting a year to get the car. Even if I do walk away then they will just sell it on anyway.

The dealer actually said they have lost orders on other cars through these price increases. They agree with me that it sours the whole car buying thing when you get stung for a load of extra cash right before delivery.
