I bought my '99 SLK 230 Sport about a month ago and it had several problems with it. I turned to this forum and found almost all of the fixes could be done for little or no money and with very little mechanical skill. So far, here's what I've done:

Fixed the duovalve by disassembling and cleaning. Cost = FREE
Fixed window limiter. Cost = $3.50 for epoxy
Re-glued door panels. Cost = $5.50 for Liquid Nails
Fixed hood squeak. Cost = $2.00 for felt
Fixed parcel rack squeak. Cost = $3.00 for rubber weather stripping
Fixed CD changer squeak. Cost = FREE
Replaced heater bulbs. Cost = $2.50 for bulbs
Total cost = $16.50
Dealer cost = I don't even want to think about it!

My SLK is now almost like new. I still have a few more projects I'm working on.
- Replace instrument cluster bulbs (one is burned out)
- Replace wheel center caps
- Repaint interior
- Turn over PSE

I saved so much money, I gladly upgraded my membership and I encourage anyone else who benefits from this forum to do the same. Thanks to all who contributed and as I get more experience, I hope to be able to contribute as well.
