I recently purchased a Mercedes Benz SLK 320 2004 and had no problems while driving home. After a couple of days of driving it i noticed that after flooring the gas pedal once car looses all its power and doesn't respond after that. No matter how hard I try the car just revs and accelerates like a Nissan Micra.

I know for a fact that it doesn't have to do with the transmission because the problem is not that it doesn't downshift rather the pedal respons is just dead. I tried to downshift manually to second gear and the car accelerates slowly as if I wasn't pressing down the gas pedal at all.

I searched the forum and other sites and came across a problem that many others had with MFA and I am unsure if it is the thing that causes the problem for me. And there is no check engine light as long as I don't press down the kickdown but after pressing it the light comes on, car slows down and it doesn't go away until I turn off the engine and start it over again. Then the problem goes away and comes back again after kickdown. Any suggestions to save me replacing parts blindly?

Easiest thing to do is go get it scanned. Even a generic obd2 scanner can tell you what codes are being tripped when the light comes on. Even if the light it off, it will still be saved as a stored code. From this, its a lot easier to diagnose.

I expect the electronic accelerator pedal sensor has a partial fault. Your symptom matches the emergency running mode for detected sensor failure.

Also attached a photo of the sensor module above the pedal.
