After a long search I have just purchased a 2002 SLK 32 AMG.....for those that know Aussie geography I found it 1000 miles away in Melbourne and had to have it transported to Brisbane

I have managed to find Total SLK 32 AMG Production Worldwide and USA Import statistics.....but can't find any details on how many 32's came to Australia

Can someone point me in the right direction for searching these Australian Import Statistics......or post them if known

Here is what I have found so far.............

SLK 32 AMG
Production ran between Aug 2000 and March 2004.
Only 4,333 were built in total, of which 979 were retained for Germany,
2,056 exported to the USA and 263 to the UK.

Here are the USA production numbers for those interested.........

SLK 32 AMG

2002 1182
2003 562
2004 312

Thanks

David

Well done David, I'm somewhat envious but still very happy with my 230.
Can't help you with production numbers regrettably, although I'm surprised there are so few. There must have been only a fw dozen sold in Australia.
We need pictures and your impressions of the new ride please.

I'm also still very happy with my 230.....will probably keep it for every day driving.....the 32 is really a collector car ....but if anybody arranges a 'track day' up here in Qld...........:D
First impressions are.......very different ride.....32 is much firmer.....for everyday driving on our 'less than perfect' roads in Queensland, the 230 is much more pleasant........but find a few twisty, mountain roads and the 32 is a delight that is hard to put in words

I guess you weren't able to fly down, then drive the '32 home?

Enjoy your little monster - you'll need to get the smile surgically removed from your face once you've driven it a while though!
Thanks Nick......I found my 32 whilst towing a 30 foot Caravan with my Landcruiser on a 5000 mile trip........you're right about the smile....:D

Thanks Biosphere

It was a struggle for me to find one too. My car came all of the way from Florida. Scariest thing I had ever done, buying a car sight unseen. But it worked out! congrats on the purchase.
I had seen the 32 on the internet.......but was not prepared to buy it unseen.........I was on a trip with my wife and just happened to mention to her that there was a car I would like to look at whilst she was shopping ;)

........I was able to drive the 32 and the service records were ok.....but didn't have time for full inspection.........got a good deal and a fuller inspection when it arrived has turned out ok
.......my wife wasn't impressed...but hey!!!

I'm still keen to find out the import stats to Australia.......being a RHD may help if I could find out the RHD production numbers......RHD would have gone to UK, Sth Africa, Japan, Singapore and a few other spots......

Thanks for the replies

Cheers

David

We rented a 1999 SLK230 from Christchurch a couple of years ago while on holidays. It had only 20000kms on the clock then. We spotted a SLK32 parked on the street in Wanaka while on our driving holiday. Silver with black interior. Looked nice. Must be very rare in NZ.
Great roads in the South Island for open top touring in a SLK. The sun is deceptively fierce though - must be the ozone hole.

Hi all, a long article on the SLK32 in Mercedes Enthusiast (July 05) states there were about 50 exported to Oz according to an owner in Sydney, but you could probably find out from MB Oz or the customs dept even?

Our SLK32 is a very rare beast anywhere and you'll probably be lucky to see another in Oz. I did see a C32 in Byron Bay two years ago and I've seen 4 SLK32's in two years of ownership in the UK - all brilliant silver and around East London.

You've got some awesome roads out there so I hope you drive with your roof down because it's the best way of hearing that exhaust note. You might as well take the hi-fi out
