This only seems to happen when the weather gets cold and when I'm driving very slow, probably under 15 or 20 mph, over small bumps in the road. Also, it appears to be coming from the left rear and seems to be in sync with the movement of the rear wheels over the bumps.

I'm suspecting maybe a loose rear shock or maybe a worn or dry bushing, but I'm new to MLs and would appreciate suggestions of things to check from more experienced owners.

thanks in advance . . .

Ours was bad shocks at about 100k miles. Replaced them. That set is now doing it and
I have set ready to go in when I can find the time. Some people find a broken spring,
but based on your description the rear suspension should be looked over for a worn
bushing on any of the links also before shock replacement is done.

Just before my '03 ML350s extended warranty expired a few yrs back, we had the same squeak. It was the lower rear bushing. seemed as if it was metal on metal. Good luck.
