is it common for the superchsrger pully belt to break?
what may cause this?
got on mine today and it went, heard a noise and then in...
drive (d) had no downshift when putin pedal down had
to manually shift. to downshift , it also said ESP
defective.

I have never had one break. But they do wear out. Its one of the easiest DIY projects on this car. Just put a wrench on the tension bolt and it slips on real easy. While you have it off. I would suggest looking at the dual pulley to the left of the Supercharger. That dual pully is a problem point for the AMG. The inside Plastic pulley has a bad habit of the bearing failing. The bummer is that Dual Pulley is AMG only and its a couple hundred bucks. The belt is about $ 30.00. I would replace both belts while your in there.

Not sure about your ESP error.
See if it clears once you get the belts back on correctly.
