Driving an SL55 over the weekend, there was an occasional squeak or chirp from the rear end. It seemed to only occur around 1750rpm, around the time of the shift into what I believe was 2nd gear. Is this normal? Does anyone have any ideas as to what might cause this noise?

I have heard of this from other sl 55 owners the majority of their squeeks and chirps came from the electromagnetic clutch on the supercharger when it kicked in. check it out.

The service tech mentioned this as well...but after giving it some thought I doubted the likelihood for a couple of reasons...the chirp most definitely comes from the rear end of the car as opposed to the front end where one find the supercharger...and on top of that it would seem as if it should happen at various speeds, and not only on a particular shift.

Regardless, I appreciate any input I can get. Thanks.
