I saw Mr. Tummala's conversion (what an amazing job he did) and I was curious as to the long term feasibility of transplanting a SL500 v-8 into our 560's. I saw a couple of engines on Ebay from (I think) a 2002 SL500 going for around 6,500. How difficult would it be to fit the new engine, transmission and exhaust into our existing bodies, while keeping the stock look?
I for one, think that it would be amazing to have a 24 (or 32) valve 560 SEC.

Also, why the drop in horsepower in the SL's? in '92 they made around 322hp, now they only make 302 with the 5.0 liter v-8...

the $6500 engine on ebay I would assume is just for the engine. you'll need the engine, transmission and ALL computers/electronics that come with it. Plus modifications and custom built parts to have it all fit in place.

You have a Euro 560 Engine... if you just tweak the exhaust, you should have nearly as much horsepower as the 302hp 5.0 m119.

Adapting an engine from a 200 would be a Huge undertaking. The number of sensors and computers involved in making that engine run is ridiculous. Lastly, you have taken something that has very reasonably priced/simple electronics and replaced it w/ an engine that costs a small fortune if any one of it's black boxes quits (Something MB is rather known for these days). If you are starting w/ a Euro motor it will not take much at all to get up to the same HP figures as the 02 motor. If you Really want power talk to Supercharged SEC, his car Rips!
