Hello, hoping to find some pearls of wisdom on this one.

I recently acquired an SL500 R230 and up until recently have had no need to use the heated rear screen. Unfortunately, I pressed the button in the car last week and although the switch lights up the rear screen heater is clearly not doing anything at all.

I've checked the related fuses under the bonnet and also the one in the glovebox behind the drivers seat and both are fine. I've also checked the associated relay and that is also fine....GULP!!

Has anyone had a similar issue? I've tried searching for threads on this but there doesn't seem to be a conclusive answer....that I can find. Perhaps there is a way of testing the heating element in the screen itself? I really don't want to replace the back window so I'm praying for a miracle here. All connections to the element look to be in order too.

R230 heated rear screen not working

Hi Marple,
Not a helpful reply I'm afraid, just another R230 (2007 SL350) with the same problem! I'm sure my rear screen heater worked when I first bought the car last March but not recently.

If you manage to solve the problem I'd be very grateful if you could let me know.

Good Luck,

John

Welcome to the forum @Steveo11 - please take a moment to visit your forum user's control panel. Go into "Account Settings", then "Account Details". Fill in the information for your "Location" (at least state/country), and your "Vehicle Details" (model and year). I know you may have mentioned some of this in your initial post, but having it in your profile, it will appear on all of your posts in the left pane, below your name and avatar photo. This information will be of great assistance to others when trying to help you. If you have more cars than will show there, then add them to your "Signature".

Maybe these fuse diagrams will help:
