So I still have not taken my top off since I got the car last November, was looking at doing this in the spring, I see I have a cord on the right behind the pax seat, I guess this is power for the rear window defroster. but my rear window does not have the little wires like I've see in other cars. I do have a switch on the center dash with the heater symbol. Was the rear window heater an option?

Not sure about option status on Euros. It was pretty much standard on US. Only the early cars like yours had visible lines. It was tempered glass (don't ask). Eventually they switched to laminated and the lines are not easily seen. They also offered a non heated replacement.

The Euros I have show 590 as the option for tinted and heated. 592 or 593 on US models.

Well they must be really fine! I'll get a magnifying glass!

When I broke the one on my '72 back in the 90's both heated and non heated were available. Maybe yours was replaced at some time. Did you check for an option code?

Edit: I found where you had posted a pic of your build codes. It has 590 for heated.

This post got me curious as I’ve never had need to use my rear defroster and usually keep it unplugged so I don’t forget when taking top off. I can’t see wires with naked eye, but can see shadows from the wires on the soft top boot if i shine a flashlight through the window. Looks like they run vertically about 1/5 in spacing

My 1979 also has vertical wires, each looks like a wave rather than a straight line.
