Yesterday, the dear lady wife and myself went to Blenheim Palace near Oxford for the SL 60th Anniversary Rally organised by the MB Club UK. Had a nice time, met up with Colin (monkeymerc, thanks for letting me have your spare bumper badge) and Nigel (nt-j) and maybe a few more of you, who knows. Weather was a bit overcast, but that seems the best we can hope for this Summer. I think there were about 270 cars in attendance, ranging from 1950's Gullwing to brand new SL63, but I reckon the 129's formed the biggest contingent. I've attached a few pics which I hope you like, I'll post a few more over the next couple of days. My apologies to elbeik, since the first picture includes 4 Pano roofs which just by chance ended up next to each other (although 1 is a R230 which sneaked in somehow).
Steve and Felicity

Looks like a great day out, but I'm a little suprised that apart from MBZ 3027 the rest of them look like the could do with a clean ;)
Too kind..:) There was a Polish and Show section, where the owners whip a collapsible bucket out of the boot, and start washing / polishing the moment the wheels stop turning. The rest of us riff - raff had probably come through some light rain on the way there, that's our excuse and we're sticking to it. Here's another couple of bangers that got a bit wet and grubby before the day was out, the Gullwing was last seen heading off in the rain with the doors still up....cool, so cool.....

To download your pictures from the camera take the digital card out of the camera and install it in your computer.
:D:D:D Yes good one ,but if youve left the card in the computer and then taken pics on the memory I think you need a usb cable;)

Great pics, looks like a fun time, Thanks, Steve.
My pleasure, here's a few more. Although most definately not SLs, a special mention has to be made of the 7 German cars who drove half way across Europe to the rally. Wonderful immaculate old cars (sorry I don't know all the models) and the red Estate car was a hoot, sort of a rolling work of art, half the panels polished, half not, looking a total shed but apparently very healthy underneath. They won a couple of prizes then set off back home

It looked like a great day out.

Sorry I missed all of you, had I been in the UK I could have won the concours with my 1993 SL500 :D

BTW there are some really nice Oxford breweries that produce some great real ale  (tell me about it Nigel ;))

I never get tired of looking at these cars. I wish we had more interest in some type of gathering in Tasmania or on the Australian mainland.
Hi Poundy,
Do you have an idea how many SLs or Mercs of any model there are are in Tasmania? It shouldn't be too difficult to arrange an informal Sunday MB Cars and Coffee morning - even if only a dozen cars turn up it could be fun. Request a $10 charity donation and I'm sure your local MB dealer would lend a carpark in return for a little publicity. Let the Police know what you're planning (no racing) and they'll probably supply the doughnuts :D
It's just a thought, but these things tend to start small. In a hundred years the Poundy Memorial Rally could be global.....
Regards
Steve
