Hi,
I have a big oppertunity to buy a Sl 280 1997 (100,000km) and sell my SL320,
The price is good but I dont know if it's worth buying becasue the engine isn't that strong and the car is heavy.

It's silver which is an extra + because my black SL is to hot sometimes,

Please tell me if a SL 280 is as much fun as a sl320!!!!!!!!!
what are +/-
THankS For your help.

Honestly, I wouldn't go back to a 280. My 320 is fine but if I was changing, I'd definitely move to a 500. I had the 280 V6 in an E-class and although it is a nice engine, the SL is too heavy for it and you'll always feel like you want more power. I drove diarmuids SL600 today and I have a hunger for more power!!!

I'd love a SL500 or 600 but I am a young guy (22 years) and don't really afford to:
1) kill myself
2) pay to much for gas

I had a chance to drive a sl600 and its honestly to fast for me yet

thanks for your reply's , maybe some Sl280 owner has something to say....

Hi aretim I have an SL 320 too (V6 engine 224 bhp) and I agree with the others to keep your 320 against the 280. The power difference between the two is pretty big and remember the car is about 1.8 tonns so the more power the better.
At your age I had a car capable of 0-62 in 5.7 seconds and I'm still here so don't be bothered or scared from the power of a car. More, a more powerful car can go at the same pace of a less powered car using less gas since it's making less effort.
Just to give you an example my SL 320 has an average of 6.8 KMs/l in pretty spirited drive and my mum's Nissan Micra (1.2L automatic) in the same spirited drive but with lot less pace does 7.2 KMs/l.
A friend of mine that had an SL 500 in the past told me that the difference between mine and his is not that big of that scary. I've been told that the difference with the SL 600 is bigger but I have no back up for that.

Cheers.

My SL 320 is a 1997, previously I had a SL 320 V6 1999 and previously to that I had a SL 320 1996. I love the car I have now, but its green, a color that doesn't meet my requirements.
the Sl 320 V6 was silver the greatest color of all, it has all the ++++.

I want to give you the info about th SL 280 compared to my SL 320
SL 280 ----- MY SL 320
silver ----- green
113000km----- 210000km
no accident----- 2 accident small (both happenend to me)
1997 ----- 1997
service book ----- xxxx
no holes in the roof ----- 3 fixed and 2 not yet.

and I can sell my SL (I have a buyer) and buy this one for about 5000 Euro less which I can transfer the money into nice rims (silver arrow), xenons, or maybe even amg kit (If i find somebody to send it to me), and still have some money for gas.

I hoped that their will be somebody on this forum with a SL 280?!>?!!

Cheers
Michael

p.s. still waiting for replys

as you see the engine maybe not an upgrade, but the condition is

With these more infos now the deal seems far more sensible.
Go for it aretim, and sell it in a few for something bigger like the SL 500 or SL 600.

Cheers.

SL280 is more heavy on fuel than a 320, both as it is working harder, and from the offical fuel figures fir the car.
