Guys,

My car is getting back after a two week stay in the transmission shop. I discovered recently that I have water getting under the rear side of the front seat. Some of you may remember, and suggested different possibilities. If it is the sunroof, is there a temporary way to seal off the sunroof if I can't get the car garaged for a few days? I want to be ready the next time it rains, and I don't have shelter at work.

Would a silly putty like material work?

Would water running down the A-pillars get under the floor and end up under the rear of the driver's seat?

Thanks,
Drew

could be a good investment to buy an all-weather cover. Good ones are $100+ but you can get some for around $40 or so I think on ebay. If you do, make sure it specifically states that they're waterproof. I've seen ones that say weatherproof, but they were not waterproof.

W126Sam,

I have the cover on my agenda, but I am thinking if I am out and about and it rains, I'll need some temporary stop gap measure- no pun intended.

Thanks

Hey Drew,

I've used electricians tape to temporarily seal leaks. It's not too hard to clean up if you need to leave it on for a while. Doesn't get all messy like duct tape.

Thank you all for your responses. I will probably try some clear packaging tape until I can get it garaged and use another vehicle.

Thanks also for the video, Michael. My sunroof opens, but does not close. There's no water coming in through the headliner or anything, so I am thinking the drains are clogged, causing the rain to leak through channels leading to the floor under the seat.

I used a new sunroof seal to seal mine. Worked like a charm!

Foolio,

I need an entire paintjob, so it would be wasted in the near future- all seals will be replaced. I will probably get an engine rebuild before that, too, so I am looking for a short term band-aid.

Thanks,
Drew

Sorry about the smart remark. Was just bustin your chops. Your explanation makes sense. Seriously though, I wouldn't use silly putty. wouldn't want that getting in the workings of anything. Might try some sort of waterproof marine tape.

I've used both clear packaging tape and electrical tape to seal window gaps and recommend against the packaging tape . The electrical tape is more "rubber like" and makes a better seal in moist winter conditions as well as leaving less residue
