Drove the wife's S500 (LWB) today since the A/C is out on it. SDS indicates the evaporator temperature sensor (it's already on the way). But what I noticed was how good at the lower RPM's that S500's tend to be, because of the engine's torque curve.

@WOG964, your S500 is likely even faster, being the SWB version. It must be fun to drive that thing! :)

Hello, I'm new to BenzWorld last week I was offered a 2002 S430 for free because they needed the driveway space, premium gas is too expensive, and their 17-year-old daughter did not want it as her first car. The person I got it from was the 2nd owner who purchased it in 2007 from his aunt who paid $92k for it new. It has been garaged most of its life and serviced at Mercedes up until 2017 when it was just parked in the garage. The last two years it has sat outside being driven only once in 2021 for a smog check. I own 4 older Cadillacs (59 CDV, 94 Eldorado, 95 Fleetwood and 99 Deville) but I have to say this is luxury on a whole other level. Looking forward to the forums as I do most of the repairs on my vehicles myself. After a weekend of scrubbing, cleaning, waxing and polishing I'm pleased to present Brunhilda.

This is my first Mercedes 2001 S500, I kind of ran into it on accident. After a failed craiglist purchase of another vehicle leaving me with significantly less money to work with, I found this for $1400. I didn't know anything about Mercedes and never even thought about getting one. At first it was just another car I found that had a low price, so I could get to work. When I test drove it there was a slight misfire and didn't accelerate great. I almost didn't buy because it sounded like it was going to crap out on me on the way home. But... I offered the guy $1100 and off me and my girlfriend went, 45 minute drive home. And of course my worst fears were met when after accelerating into the highway it suddenly started nothing down and wouldn't go over 20mph and transmission wasn't shifting ( I know learn is the famous limp home mode) I thought that was it, another failed craiglist pur hase and now not nearly enough money for any other kind of decent vehicle that would drive. Let's just say my first introduction to benzworld and the w220 forum was 5 minutes after purchase on the side of the highway.

Long story short, I got it out of limp mode and I've been obsessed with my new Mercedes ever since. Researching everything I could and figuring out anything I could to fix on my own. It runs and drives good now with a few issues and ongoing projects I'm working on.

Anyways I'm glad to be here and I'm already having a lot of fun using this forum!

So I'll be around a lot, Take it easy All!

Yeah, that looks like Southern California. Your car being a pre-facelift car, they tend to rust in areas where they use road salt during the winters. But in Southern California, you all don't even know what road salt is, so that car should stay in fine shape for a good, long time. Dad's 2000 S430 didn't have a speck of rust on it during its entire life in Las Vegas, NV.

Since you do your own car maintenance, I recommend--in the strongest terms--that you get a STAR Diagnostic System (SDS) setup. It's about US $700 to $800, depending on the computer you get and the MUX. And it is so worth it, because SDS is the actual Mercedes-Benz tool that all the dealers use. Also, with the Developer Mode activated, you can do mods that Daimler in Germany can do, but even the dealers cannot do.

Here's my new to me 2006 S500 on its maiden voyage to work today. (60k-ish miles, one owner before me, garage queen).

^^ Damn...that's pretty. Yes, you did get lucky. The really nice part is that, you being in Thailand, they don't use road salt there, so that beautiful car of yours is very unlikely to rust...unlike in my part of the United States.

Just picked this up in October. I had a 2003 S55 AMG but loving this 2005 S600 BiTurbo. Been going through it all one by one, worked on the transmission, swapped in a new ABC tandem pump, new tire and wheels, new Android radio (today). Need to work on the soft close doors, and rear shade motor next. Changing the brakes this weekend. In the mean time I am trying hard to keep my foot out of the floor board.

Wow that’s nice! It looks very clean !! I’m trying to find one in the New England area that is reasonably priced, which is very hard 😂😂

Thank you. I was looking for months on various websites across the country. Originally I was looking for another S55 AMG. I was in Denver for business and test drove an S55 that was advertised for $20K. I found several issues with it so passed on it, plus it was overpriced for its condition. I guess dealerships thought with the ship shortage in the USA that all cars could get inflated prices without notice. After the disappointing test drive and missing a flight home to do so, I found this S600. It was in better shape and $5K cheaper. Test drove it for about 40 min and pulled the wallet out and bought it for $14k cash and drove it home. Fifteen minutes after signing the deal and on the road the transmission started giving me problems. It made the 800mile journey and the very next day I dropped the pan, changed the fluid and conductor plate. Drove like a dream after that. There was a blue one advertised in Phoenix, Az that was in better shape for around the same price. You might have to find one out of state and. drive or ship it back. California and Arizona seem to be a hot bed for these w220s in good condition.
